February 7th-
1949 – Joe DiMaggio signed a contract with the New York Yankees that was worth $100,000. It was the first six-figure contract in major league baseball.
1965 – Cassius Clay began using the name Muhammed Ali.
1994 – Michael Jordan signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox to play baseball.
1997 – Jim Kelly (Buffalo Bills) announced his retirement from the NFL. He was the only quarterback to date to guide the same team to four losing Super Bowls
2003 -The Sports Illustrated Web site reports Alex Rodriguez is one of the 104 players who tested positive for steroids in 2003. The testing, which was intended only to determine the extent of steroid use by players at the time, revealed the Ranger shortstop was using Primobolan, an anabolic substance
February 8th-
Spud Webb wins the 1986 NBA Slam Dunk Contest
February 9th-
1992- Magic Johnson comes back after announcing that he was infected with the AIDS virus to play in the 1992 All-Star Game. Johnson was named MVP after finishing with 25 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds.
2003- Michael Jordan played in his final All-Star game, notching 20 points and passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all time scoring leader in All-Star games.
2004- Rasheed Wallace is traded from the Portland Trailblazers to the Atlanta Hawks, where he would play only one game before being traded to the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons went on to win the NBA Championship that year.
February, 10th-
1990- James “Buster” Douglas became the new Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the world after a 10th round KO to Mike Tyson in the Tokyo Dome. Prior to this Tyson had never been knocked down in his career.
