The Devils Hit Rock Bottom

For the New Jersey Devils, the 2010-2011 season is one to forget, forever. Currently at 9-24-2 they are THE WORST team in the NHL. Embarrassing is simply too nice of an adjective to describe this season. They are last in goals scored, 28th in goals against, and 24th on the power play. Future hall of fame goaltender Martin Brodeur is 5-17-1 with a 3.08 goals against and a save percentage below .900. Superstar Ilya Kovalchuk has only 8 goals and 10 assists. Yes, they have had injuries to many key players and recently fired coach John MacLean did a terrible job, but there are no excuses in sports. This once proud franchise has become the laughing stock of the NHL. They need a miracle to come within striking distance of a playoff birth.

Heinz Field Transformation

On the brighter side of things, the NHL’s annual Winter Classic will be held at the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Heinz Field. The Ovechkin vs. Crosby rivalry resumes once again as the Pittsburgh Penguins, who currently lead the east, host the Washington Capitals. The Caps have been reeling as of late, recently snapping an 8 game losing streak. It should be an exciting match as always. In case you have missed it, check out HBO’s 24/7 Series covering the match up between both teams. The puck is scheduled to drop at 1pm New Years Day on NBC.
