State Of The Giants

By now the world knows that Steve Smith has left the Giants to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. This news comes almost a week after tight end Kevin Boss signs a deal to play for the Oakland Raiders. Giants fans everywhere are losing their minds and more importantly, their composure. I’m here to reassure all my fellow Giants fans. There is no reason to believe the G-Men won’t be alright. Sure, Eli Manning lost his top two targets in Steve Smith and Kevin Boss, and yes, Osi Umenyiora is being a malcontent, and of course, the offensive line is almost brand new but none of that is any reason to believe the Giants will have a bad season. This is the same team that, as the lockout was ending, many people were predicting to finish with at least 10 wins, including 5 wins in their fist 6 games. What changed? Are the Eagles the team to beat in the NFC? I would say that they are. But that doesn’t mean the Giants have no shot. The Giants still have one of the more favorable schedules in the league this season and are still a decent team.

Instead of focusing on what the Giants haven’t done and who they’ve lost, focus on what they have done and who they’ve gained. They resigned Ahmad Bradshaw, added some depth to the linebacking corps and secondary, Andre Brown is healthy again, and (most importantly, in my opinion) they brought in Steve Weatherford to compete with Matt Dodge. So before you start jumping on the Eagles bandwagon, don’t forget what Big Blue is capable of. At the end of the day, games are won and lost on the field and Super Bowls are won in February, not August.
