For the first time, I’m going to blog my thoughts of the NFL draft as they come to me. Hang on folks… we’re in for a bumpy ride.

7:36pm – Bradford’s on the phone and he’s smiling. My guess is he’s been selected.

7:38pm – The Rams select… Sam Bradford. Somewhere, Nelly is happy.

7:44pm – The Lions drafted Ndamukong Suh. Probably the best defensive tackle prospect since Warren Sapp.

7:45pm – Bucs on the clock… so much pressure.

7:51pm – Gruden just made a Booger McFarland reference. Its gonna be a great night. That said… The Bucs have selected a weeping Gerald McCoy. I didn’t think the first one to cry would be a defensive lineman. Pfft.

7:58pm – Deadskins took Trent Williams. I gotta be honest. This surprises me. I think Okung would’ve been a better pick here.

8:03pm – If there was ever a reason to think Trent Williams is going to eat himself out of the NFL the way Mike Williams did, you just saw it. Literally seconds after being selected, he’s already chewing.

8:06pm – The Chiefs take Eric Berry. Not sure if I would do that. They do have a need at offensive line. Berry’s good though. Apparently, Kansas City has good bbq according to my intel and outside analysis. So, its a win-win.

8:12pm – If Seattle doesn’t take Russell Okung here, I might scream. Just a fair warning. I mean, Jon Gruden agrees with me. By the way, he pretty much just told everyone the Seahawks would take CJ Spiller with their second first round pick. Spoiler alert!!!

8:22pm – The Browns have selected Joe Haden. I think its a bit early for Haden. I had him going to San Francisco. Man his eyes are bloodshot.

8:26pm – Did anyone just see Haden’s family?? Was that T-Pain?

8:29pm – I’m going to try to keep this PG… First off, its too early for McClain. Secondly, I really wanted the Giants to take him. Third, why take a linebacker when you need a tackle AND and quarterback. That said. Buffalo’s on the clock. Clausen’s gotta be a Bill.

8:32pm – Okay, I like Spiller. I really do. But who’s playing quarterback for the Bills? And does this mean the end for Marshawn Lynch?

8:36pm – I think the Jags are going to take Derrick Morgan. That’ll be a solid pick for them. That said… the last few picks have made me scratch my head. You need a quarterback, take a quarterback. This is shades of Aaron Rodgers.

8:37pm – This is what I live for… stupid picks. Why? Why on Earth would you reach so far for Tyson Alualu? 10th overall? He wouldn’t have sniffed the 1st round. Did Isaiah Thomas sneak into the Jaguars war room?

8:42pm – Very solid pick here. San Francisco taking Anthony Davis. Dolphins also trade with San Diego here. I like Anthony Davis. Big kid, underrated.

8:50pm – I get it. Ryan Matthews is good. He’s a complement to Sproles but at #12? Too early. Come on San Diego. Get it together.

8:56pm – Ok seriously… somethings up. Brandon Graham over Derrick Morgan… especially when you need a safety and Earl Thomas is there? I don’t like Philly, but I don’t like dumb picks either.

9:04pm – The Seahawks just took Earl Thomas. Great player. No doubt about it, but not a position of need for them. Not at all. Bad job. I feel like they got flustered after Spiller came off the board.

9:13pm – The Giants just took Jason Pierre-Paul. This could mean the end of Osi Umenyiora. Also, he draws a lot of comparisons to Jevon Kearse.

9:19pm – The Titans have selected Derrick Morgan. I think he’s a better player than the 16th pick. San Francisco on the clock, could Clausen come home to the Bay Area?

9:25pm – Solid pick by the Niners. This guy can run block. He’ll be a bulldozer for Frank Gore.

9:28pm – Steelers pass on Clausen to take Maukice Pouncey. He’s versatile so I like the pick even though its a little early to take him. Falcons on the clock.

9:31pm – Falcons taking Weatherspoon is solid. He can play, and they definitely needed him.

9:37pm – The Houston Texans just took Kareem Jackson. Solid pick. They needed a corner. Kyle Wilson was out there.

9:40pm – Jermaine Gresham to the Bengals. Good pick. Can’t believe Bryant is still there. Pats are on the clock. Could they take Tebow here? Doubt it.

9:45pm – The Pats traded their pick to the Broncos who took Demaryius Thomas from Georgia Tech. He gets comparisons to Calvin Johnson. I like the pick. They needed a wideout and got one. My question? How long was this meeting between McDaniels and Thomas that he had time to teach his three positions in the Bronco offense?

9:52pm – Bryan Bulaga to the Packers… good pick. Very good pick. Rodgers needs someone to watch his ass. Pats are once again… on the clock.

9:58pm – Dallas traded up with New England to take Dez Bryant, the Texas native. Scary pick. Seriously. I’m scared.

10:04pm – Ravens trade their pick to Denver. Could Ozzie Newsome be upset about Bryant going to Dallas?

10:05pm – The Denver Broncos have all but made it official. Tebow’s got the Bronco hat on… the second quarterback taken is Tim Tebow… over Clausen. I think Kiper just had a heart attack. He’s quiet for once.

10:10pm – I don’t know what to say. I’m flabbergasted. Tim Tebow a first rounder is possible.. but over Jimmy Clausen AND Colt McCoy?

10:16pm – Could Arizona really be dumb enough to pass on Jimmy Clausen right now? If they do, Minnesota have a golden goose right in their lap.

10:18pm – The Cardinals passed on Jimmy Clausen to take Dan Williams. Not a bad pick. He filled a need for them. Jimmy Clausen is looking like this year’s Aaron Rodgers.

10:24pm – The Patriots have selected Devin McCourty from Rutgers. He’s a fast kid, runs in the 4.3s. They took him over Kyle Wilson and more importantly over Sergio Kindle, an outside linebacker, at a position of need.

10:30pm – So the Dolphins lose their outside linebacker (Porter) and the their defensive end (Taylor) and they take a defensive tackle. Good times.

10:36pm – Some inside info tells me that the Jets are going to take Kyle Wilson. Actually it was Adam Shefter via twitter.

10:37pm – The Jets took Kyle Wilson from Boise St. I’d go out on a limb and say the Jets might have the best secondary if not the best defense in football.

10:46pm – The Lions just traded back up into the first round, thereby making it impossible for Clausen to be a first round pick. He’s pissed. And the Lions now select Jahvid Best from Cal. I like Best. He’s a quick little back. Good to see him comeback from that neck injury.

10:53pm – Coming back from commercial, Jon Gruden caught himself saying, “Its a crazy league, a lot of dumbass…” I think he was going to either say “moves” or “general managers”.

10:54pm – Colts take Jerry Hughes from TCU. He’s a good player, and a bit of a replacement for Raheem Brock.

11:03pm – The Saints getting Kindle here would be clutch… nice replacement for Scott Fujita, and he can play on the line to replace Charles Grant.

11:04pm – I don’t know about Robinson. He’s got character issues. And you put him in New Orleans? He’s not bad though.

So thats it. Thats the first round. Keep an eye out for my 2010 NFL Draft Grades coming next week. Needless to say, I’m disappointed in a few teams not taking advantage of a pretty good prospect in Jimmy Clausen. And Denver? I hope you’re happy.
