Five Thoughts: College Football 2015 – Week 3

1. What a top 25 shakeup!
With Alabama losing to Ole Miss, Michigan State fans should be comfortable in knowing that they’ll be in the number two spot. I can’t imagine TCU moves up because their win over SMU didn’t help them much. Stanford’s upset of USC helps Georgia and Notre Dame…if only BYU had been able to get the win over UCLA though.

2. When is a win actually a loss?
When Al Golden finds a way to squander a 23 point lead in the second half. Up 33-10, Al Golden chose to keep passing the ball instead of running out the clock. I know I’m biased as a Hurricane fan but how much longer can the fans sit around while Golden holds this team back with his terrible play calling and atrocious clock management? I’d love for the Fire Al Golden campaign to really gain some steam but how do you fire the coach of a 3-0 team?

3. I feel bad for Charlie Strong.
Just like in 2008, a white guy from Texas left a huge mess for a black guy to fix. In 2008 it was George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Now, its Mack Brown and Charlie Strong. I just hope they give him enough time to bring and develop his own guys. Right now, he’s got to try to win with players he inherited from a guy that the game clearly passed by.

4. Is Cardale Jones majoring in Twitter?
Ohio State’s Cardale Jones has had some memorable tweets in the past. He was the guy that said he went to college to “play football, not play school” and other such gems. He outdid himself after the Buckeyes close win over Northern Illinois by changing his twitter bio to say, “3rd string QB @ The Ohio State University. Oh Wait. 2nd String.” Well Cardale, in fairness, you threw for 36 yards and two interceptions.

5. Urban’s up to his old tricks.
When Urban Meyer was coaching in Florida, there was a season when he couldn’t really pick a quarterback. The starter was Chris Leak but there was a freshman quarterback that you might have heard of named Tim Tebow. Meyer went with Leak but drew up a package of plays for Tebow. Now that he’s at Ohio State, he can’t seem to choose between JT Barrett and Cardale Jones. Who does he think he is? Lloyd Carr circa 2000? I love inside jokes.
