NBA Players Giving Back For The Youth

“When I was young, it wasn’t really too many players that gave back,” Denver Nuggets Ty Lawson said. “I want to help younger players come up in the world.”

Lawson and Orlando Magic’s Victor Oladipo teamed up to host their First Annual Charity Event Weekend presented by basketball organization Team Takeover.

The weekend began with a bowling event at Pin Stripes in Georgetown Washington, DC. A majority of the proceeds made from the purchased lanes, drinks and entry into the bowling alley went to the Team Takeover’s Youth Mentor Program.

People from around the community filled the lanes throughout the day. The two Maryland-native superstars mingled with everyone who was in attendance.

Several other athletes showed up to support as well, including San Antonio Spurs Kyle Anderson, Denver Nuggets Erick Green, and Philadelphia 76er’s Jerami Grant.

Even though the event was for a good cause, it wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of real competition. Among the athletes, whomever had the highest score would be the winner of a huge championship trophy and hold bragging rights for the rest of the year. Oladipo took the lead early, but Lawson finished in front and celebrated Bobby Schmurda style as he “schmoney danced” after being announced the winner.

Afterwards, everyone was invited upstairs to a private happy hour gathering. The atmosphere was filled with energy and family vibes as more and more people showed up. Lawson, Oladipo and other alumni of Team Takeover discussed why the event was so important.

The final event of the weekend was on Sunday afternoon. The bleachers in McDonough Arena were packed with people anxious to watch the celebrity basketball game.
