Behanan’s Comeback

Former Louisville standout Chane Behanan is making “huge strides” of progression, says former NBA star and founder of an athlete after care program, John Lucas. Behanan was recently dismissed from the Cardinals after several team violations. He is now officially enrolled at Colorado State.

Behanan is currently residing in Houston going through a treatment program ran by Lucas. The Ohio native will remain in Texas throughout the spring working on personal issues and also taking online courses at CSU.

Colorado State announced the addition of Behanan through a press release stating he will complete his collegiate eligibility next season.

“I am extremely excited to have Chane enrolled at Colorado State,” says Head Coach Larry Eustachy. “It is a great fit for both of us… I really enjoyed getting to know him during his brief visit to Fort Collins.”

Eustachy suffered issues with alcohol, among other team violations back in 2003 costing him his job as a head coach at Iowa State. He received treatment for his problem and just one year later became the head coach at Southern Miss. In April of 2012 he left Southern Miss and was introduced as the new Head Coach of Colorado State.

Behanan tells reporters Eustachy was a significant factor in his decision to play in Fort Collins. “I respect Coach Eustachy and what he’s been through,” Behanan says. “I’m truly excited for this opportunity to be a part of the CSU basketball family.”

The 6’6” forward played in 91 games with Louisville before his release from the team. He was an asset averaging 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. He also was a key player in the Cardinals winning the 2013 NCAA title, contributing 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Highlights

I’m personally excited for Behanan to have a second chance. He has a lot of potential to succeed as a basketball player, even at the next level if he keeps working and staying out of trouble.

Eustachy also added, “there is no doubt that he will be one of the highest profile players to ever compete on the hardwood for the Rams.”

Next season will be important for Behanan to display his recovery and talent considering there will be a lot of competition with this next incoming class and returning athletes.
