Five Thoughts: College Football 2013 – Championship Week

1. THE Ohio St Buckeyes are who I thought they were. I’ve been saying it for a while, Ohio St is overrated. They hadn’t played anyone great all year and looked very mortal against Michigan last week. Now that they’ve been bounced, Urban Meyer can stop his tirades against the BCS.

2. Jordan Lynch might have lost the Heisman this weekend. Lynch is the number two candidate for the award and after this loss to Ball St in the MAC Championship, I think his fate is sealed. Its not a done deal because he was averaging over 350 yards per game, and more rushing yards per game than any other quarterback in the nation. A win would have definitely helped his cause.

3. New deals for Gus and Jimbo. FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn have signed extensions. The deal is totally deserved for Fisher as he’s built a great defense and brought the Noles back from relative obscurity. Malzahn took a team that went 0-8 last season in the SEC all the way back to a title game. Its a good job by the teams to do so because rumor has it the Texas job will be available soon.

4. We almost had you. Is what Duke fans are saying to Florida St after a 41-7 loss in the ACC championship game. If Duke had pulled the upset, we might be talking about Iron Bowl 2 in the title game. But Duke never had them. Duke never had the game. Duke barely had the ball, with the way FSU played defensively.

5. Another year, another SEC champion will win the national title. If you aren’t a fan of the SEC, you’re gonna be upset this year. As always, (or at least since 2006) the SEC will have a representative in the title game. Auburn should be favored to win against Florida St and its not even close.
