Nets Blog #2: Second “Weak” Of Action

After their second weak, I’m sorry I meant WEEK of action, the Nets have fallen to last place in the Atlantic Division. Yikes! With games consisting of questionable coaching, high turnover rate and the usual bad/no calls from officials, the Brooklyn Nets are now 2-4 on the season. This past week they went against the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards on the road and defended home court from the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers.

The Nets seemed to perform better at home than on the road. Although, they did put up a fight during the loss against the only undefeated team this season (the Pacers) at the Barclays Center.  It looks to me like they have elite teams under control but what could be causing the Nets to lose these games against less talented teams like the Magic or Wizards? These are games fans expected the Nets to put to sleep early! Instead, we all sat watching them get blown out or go into overtime only to lose by four after a good lead. Frankly, I believe Lawrence Frank needs to take over situations like the Wizards game. Having your starters “close out” the game, when you know all they did was fall behind by double digits, isn’t what fans want to see. Extraordinary performances from Allan Anderson and Shaun Livingston should’ve earned them a spot on the floor to finish the game. They played well  on both ends of the court and gave the Nets an 18pt swing to take the lead – less than half a quarter left in the fourth. Livingston, with his KG-esque screens, is quickly climbing the poll as my new favorite Net.

Now can someone tell Jason Kidd to stop encouraging these bigs, Blatche especially, to work on their outside shots?! You’re home is the paint! Get in it, attack it and own it like Benjamin Moore. That’s all us fans can ask for really – aside from the obvious defensive game and board dominance of course.

Exemplary performance from our Brooklyn Nets against the Pacers though. Indiana is one of the best defensive teams in the league and the Nets held on and went toe to toe with them. With teams like the Pacers, the Nets need to be more of a running team, it’s the only way they’re going to get in the paint. Because if not – you’ll be stuck with outside shots that can’t seem to find its way  through the net. West Coast swing coming up this week. If you don’t stay up late to watch them – then you’re not a fan and we can’t be friends.
