Five Thoughts: College Football 2013 – Week 10

Five Thoughts From Week 10 of NCAA Football

1. Despite the score, FSU-Miami was still entertaining. The Hurricanes may have lost to the Seminoles 41-14 but considering where these two teams have come from over the past decade, this game was very good. Miami might only be a season away from this game being closer. Florida State’s talent and depth, especially with Jameis Winston at quarterback, really shined through. As a Hurricanes fan, I’m disappointed but my Canes will get a second crack at the Noles in the ACC Championship in Charlotte.

2. Kliff Kingsbury deserves a lot of credit. Former Jets backup quarterback Kliff Kingsbury has done a great job leading Texas Tech to a 7-1 record and is the first ever Big 12 coach to lead his team to 7-0 in their first season as coach. I fully expect the Red Raiders to bounce back from this loss to Oklahoma St.

3. UGA might be getting healthy at the perfect time. The Georgia Bulldogs are starting to get their horses back and while they’re out of the national title race, they can salvage their season, remain bowl eligible and play spoiler in the SEC. Todd Gurley came back from his injury and played a great game.

4. No one is talking about Missouri…and they should be. The Missouri Tigers are quietly putting together a very, very good season in the SEC. Usually a one loss SEC team is good enough to play in the title game but no one will expect that team to be Mizzou. Matt Mauk is playing great. Not just great for a freshman, just great. Tennessee is no slouch and this was a quality win for the Tigers.

5. Between Oregon, FSU and Ohio St, someone’s going to be really upset by the end of the season. The top four teams in the nation are undefeated and it doesn’t look like they have any losses coming in the future. Unfortunately, only two teams get to play for the national title. FSU should jump Oregon after beating Miami, and OSU will likely stay at 4. In a perfect world, the #1 team would play the #4 team (Alabama vs OSU), the #2 team would play the #3 team (FSU vs Oregon) and the two winners would duke it out. I suppose there’s no perfect answer for this dilemma but that won’t alleviate the pain of being left out of the title game when you think you deserve it.
