MMA & The Big Apple: A Possible Union?
So far, 2011 has been chock full of natural disasters. It seems every week a new one pops up, and is brought to our attention by the media. It’s almost to the point of desensitization. If only there was some bit of good news that could temporarily give us a much needed break from Mother Nature’s latest barrage.
Well, if you’re a fan of MMA then the best possible tidings are what I have for you. Earlier this week, The NY State Senate passed legislation that sanctions MMA throughout the Empire State. This was a crucial step, but there’s one more step to get MMA in New York.
The New York State Assembly is the last thing standing in the way of sanctioning MMA. Hopefully, the Assenbly will do the right thing and pass the bill. I’ve learned (via MMAFACTS.com) the New York State Assembly’s legislative session ends June 20th. So, MMA fans (who are also NY residents) would do well to contact their local Assembly members. I, for one, hope this gets done.

According to MMAFACTS.com, 45 states sanction MMA. It’s time that New York became number 46. If the bill does get passed, then it will be only a matter of time before the UFC invades Madison Square Garden. It’s a well known fact that UFC President Dana White wants to bring the UFC to MSG. MMA has come a long way since it was labeled “human cockfighting” by John McCain, and MSG would be the perfect place to display its evolution.
