Hard Knocks: NY Jets – Episode 1 Recap

This past Thursday marked the beginning of the eagerly anticipated mini series NFL Training Camp Hard Knocks – New York Jets. The first episode definitely did well in living up to the hype of this year’s show.

The show starts off very common with a mini montage of select players and of course coach Rex Ryan giving a vulgar filled speech to get us amped for a great show. We get see Rex sign a two year extension and the obvious absence of star corner back Darrell Revis holding out for a new one himself. In this part we get to meet the new Jets and there are too many former stars to name so I’m just gonna pick one randomly and say Mark Brunell.

Part 1

This part of the show is great as we get to meet some rookies that will never make the team for various reasons. We also get to enjoy watching Mike Tannenbaum stress over how to get Darrell Revis in camp. We see some randomness involving coaches and sun tan lotion along with 5 dollar fines for junk food.

Part 2

In this part of the show we find out that Rex Ryan and linebacker Bart Scott are “BFF’s” and that Joe Nammath is alive and coaching. Nammath shows his displeasure in the way starting quarterback Mark Sanchez receives the snap from under center and gives a basic tutorial on how it was done back in his day. We also find out that Tony Richardson is really old and that the Jets have two other good fullbacks to sit on the bench during the season.

Part 3

In the final part we see the inter-squad scrimmage and surprsingly the defense can’t stop the new high powered Jets offense. The show ends with the constant tradition of a young players dream being shattered as they are cut in front of the entire HBO viewing world.

Part 4

The first episode received a little flack because Ryan used the “F-Bomb” frequently but so what? its NFL training camp not the good will games. I can’t wait to see the fall out after preseason game one against the Giants personally I hope its a loss just to see Ryan’s reaction.
