BP CEO Steps Down With A Million Dollar Pension and A New Job: As mentioned last week, BP CEO Tony Hayward is expected to resign on October 1 and leave the company’s board by theend of the year.  The British geologist has been on the receiving end of the American backlash over the largest oil spill in US history that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20.  However, Hayward will be walking away with an annual pension of almost $1 million.  In addition, he will still be involved in the company’s decisions as he will become a part of the board of TNK-BP, the company’s joint venture in Russia, reports the Associated Press.  Go figure: the CEO of a conglomerate contributes to an American catastrophe but is rewarded with a new job position and millions of dollars.  This story line is getting a bit old if you ask me.

In order to revamp the BP image in the eyes of the American people, the London-based oil company has elected American born and Mississippi native Robert Dudley as the new Chief Executive.  However, it will take more than Southern hospitality to offset the American rage over the disaster.

Black Leaders in the Ethics Hot Seat: The investigation of two high profile Black Congressional leaders are causing some to question if African-American representatives are being unfairly targeted in Washington, DC.  The House ethics committee has charged Harlem Representative Charlie Rangel (D) with 13 violations of House rules that President Obama has himself called “troubling” and LA Rep. Maxine Waters (D) is being accused of helping a bank that she and her husband are tied to financially.  Speaking on CNN, Rev. Al Sharpton pointed out that the investigation tactics being used in the cases are rarely put into practice and he implied that the prosecution could be unfair.  Politico also called into question whether there is a dual standard for Black congressional officers as opposed to their white colleagues.

Chelsea Gets Hitched: On Saturday, Chelsea Clinton wed long time boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky in Rhineback, NY.  The only child of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton was decked in a beautiful Vera Wang designed wedding gown.

Permanent Oil Plug: This week engineers could be using mud and maybe cement to make it easier to permanently plug the oil well in the Gulf in a so-called static kill.  We’ll see how this sticks out this week.
