Too Much Heat In The NBA?

A wise man would say that after Lebrons decision Thursday night, there will be a huge imbalance in the NBA. For those of you who have been living under a rock, that was the night he announced that he would be teaming up with Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh in Miami to form the NBA’s  latest big three, but this decision although exciting to the ears, may have cost Lebron more than just his fans in Cleveland. Before we continue, lets acknowledge the facts  what Lebron did to the city of Cleveland, and the Cavaliers was cruel and unusual in so many ways that there would need to be a separate column just to explain it all. It was the equivalent of marrying a girl, giving her three kids, a mountain load of depth and than dumping her at a function with all of her friends, family, and enemies in attendance for a ditsy blond half her age.  This is the same player who on several occasions said how much he loved Cleveland and how he was loyal to his people than the second things were not going his way he ran for the palm tree’s and the shadow of Dwayne Wade.

With the dust having been settled since his decision, the consensus around the NBA is that he took the easy way out. Made a move that no one has ever done, not Jordan, not Kobe, not West none of these players has ever run to another town to be the side kick with the hopes of getting an easy title, especially not at the prime of their careers. Some will disagree, and point out that the Garnett trade to the Celtics is an example of what is happening now, but  Garnett didn’t bail out on the Timber wolves, he was loyal for years, suffering from early playoff dismissals, and no championship potential throughout the prime of his career. That is why when he was traded there were no hard feelings, because he  did everything he could for the Wolves, and left  at the end of his prime. Ray Allen is a great player but he was never going to lead a team on his own, he was better suited as a secondary player. Pippen was drafted by the Bulls, and Rodman although one of the greatest rebounder and defenders during his prime  was nothing more than a glorified role player. If you want to change sports and use A-rod as an example, he joined a Yankee’s team that was aging, and didn’t have enough pitching to win the entire thing.  While it is admirable for Lebron to join a team for less money with the hopes of winning championships, he is now perceived as someone who will forever be a really talented second option in Miami.

If Lebron wins 3 to 4 rings with the Heat, will we acknowledge it as a championship that he won, or a title that he help Wade bring in to Miami as the sidekick, because Lebron may have been the most watched free agent, but Wade by far is the King of Miami, as well as the leader of that  team. What makes this even more frustrating is the way it happened. These players resembled a bunch of 13 year old girls trying to make sure they all ended up in the same classes together for eighth grade, so that they wont be lonely. Only these guys are doing it because their seem to have no confidence in building their own championship team.Lebron, and Bosh are some of the best players in the league, usually the best players in the league want to beat each other. Its their way of showing that they above anyone else is the Alpha dog of the NBA. Bird & Magic were good friends off the court but they never wanted to become teammates because of the competition with each other on the court. They would show their friendship during the off season, but when the season started they were on opposing teams trying to destroy each others championship dreams on the court.

Lebron James – “The Decision”

Lebron is his own man and is entitled to his own decision but he has to know what this does to his legacy. The discussion of who is the better player between he and Kobe Bryant are over, because Kobe would have never done it like that, his comparisons to Jordan stop because Jordan won his own titles, Lebron never has and according to the length of this contract he never will, from this point on no matter how many titles he wins with this team he will always be six steps behind Jordan, five steps behind Kobe, and one title behind Wade, the new King.
