Five Thoughts: College Football 2015 – Week 1

1. Don’t Count Alabama Out So Quickly:
Nick Saban’s program has fallen off from where they were a few years ago when they were dominating the SEC and the rest of the nation, but their offensive line looks good, Derrick Henry ran all over Wisconsin for three touchdowns and all Jacob Coker has to do is play mistake free football for the Tide to be a factor in the postseason.

2. TCU Should Drop From Number Two:
Even though the Horned Frogs won against Minnesota, they never looked dominant and they won by a slim margin. With such a weak non-conference schedule (the Gophers are their toughest non-conference opponent) its going to be hard to justify keeping TCU this high for very long.

3. Kansas State’s Marching Band Is Hilarious:
In their season opener against South Dakota, the halftime show featured a theme called space where they formed scenes from Star Wars and Star Trek. At one point, their formation resembled their rival Kansas Jayhawk’s mascot crashing into a spaceship that looked a lot like male genitals.

4. Is David Shaw On His Way Out?
After a woeful performance against Northwestern, Stanford will likely drop out of the top 25. Stanford has been shaky ever since offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton left for the NFL. If Stanford doesn’t show at least some effort going forward, they could be looking for a new head coach soon.

5. Whats Going On With Offensive Lines?
Texas’ line didn’t look very good against Notre Dame and Penn State’s line didn’t look like they knew how to play football anymore in their game against Temple. It was like the MonStars from Space Jam came down and took their talent. At one point, Christian Hackenberg was sacked from a two man rush. A TWO MAN RUSH.

Bonus Thought #1
In due time, Coach Harbaugh will make Michigan relevant again. It probably won’t be this year though. Jake Rudock looked alright in spots but his three interceptions doomed the Wolverines. Most importantly, once again Michigan couldn’t get their running game going and thats been their biggest issue for a few years now.

Bonus Thought #2
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Ohio State has three Heisman candidates at “quarterback” and the best one of the three (Braxton Miller) is playing wide receiver. The Buckeyes are the consensus number one team in the nation and proved against Virginia Tech that their ranking is warranted.
