Holy Cross High School named Timothy Smith to replace Tom Pugh as Head Varsity Coach following Pugh’s recent retirement after 42 years. Smith has been the Assistant Head Varsity Coach at Holy Cross since 2012.

Smith attended Samuel J. Tilden High School where he was an All-League Football Player and All League Baseball Player. After he graduated, Smith attended Pratt Institute where he majored in construction management, then joined the New York City Fire Department in 1992. He played for the FDNY football team from 1993-1999 and coached from 2000-2003, culminating the final season with a National Championship win. He started his coaching career at Holy Cross as a Junior Varsity Coach from 1997-1999, then took a position as Defensive Coordinator at Cardinal Hayes from 2000-2002 before returning to Holy Cross as Defensive Coordinator from 2002-2003. He spent the 2003-2004 season as Offensive Coach at St. Francis Prep before taking a Head Coach position at Nazareth Regional High School. Smith returned to Holy Cross as Defensive Coordinator in 2006 before being appointed Assistant Head Varsity Coach.
