Fitness: Benefits Of Weight Training

We all know that exercising has many benefits, both physically and mentally. There are plenty of ways of being active and maintaining a healthy physique. Because of this, it is recommended that you apply the correct ways of exercising depending on your goals.

What I mean by this is that if you want to gain or lose weight, increase your strength or simply “tone up” you have to start weight training. There are thousands of workouts that can be done at a gym or even at home, using weights and your own body weight that will help you achieve better goals than running alone would do. Cardiovascular exercises (running, jogging, biking) are all great for your stamina, endurance, to help shed some body fat and your overall well being but it will not do more than just help you lose weight.

  • The more muscle you build, the more fat and calories you will be able to burn.
  • When you have muscle you burn fat even while you’re resting.
  • Strength training helps you with long term fat loss
  • Speeds up your metabolism
  • Improves your immune system
  • Decreases stress
  • Boosts your confidence and improves your mood. You release endorphins (an opioid produced by the brain to make you feel good and happy)
  • Regular weight training avoids future weight gain
  • Strength training protects your bones
  • It makes you stronger and fit. When we lose weight with just cardio our skin will remain flaccid and fluffy. With weight training you’re building muscles that will replace the fat lost.
  • Improves flexibility and balance.

Whether you decide to be a runner, a body builder, a cross fitter or a yogi, it is important to be consistent, follow a healthy diet and know what your goals are so you can work for the body you want.
