The Knicks Move Forward

And the next New York Knicks coach is…..

Ahhh Steve Kerr, I cannot help but laugh as Mike Woodson gets the good ole Knick axe. Why play games everybody? Stevie boy is going to be the New York Knicks coach once his TV responsibilities are over and a NBA champion is crowned. It’s the worst kept secret in Gotham. We watch the same NBA on TNT games, we hear Kerr pontificate about when he would call a timeout and what type of sets he would run in certain scenarios. Also, have you heard Kerr’s recent interviews from ESPN’s Colin Cowherds drive time show and Bill Simmons new media BS Report.

Kerr cannot help but be coy. This innocent cat and mouse affair will play out soon as Knicks fans and sports radio pundits ponder who could be the next Knicks coach though, the answer is abundantly obvious. In a nutshell, we are stepping into a series of serious decisions that will measure how viable the era of Phil Jackson may become and measure how high the stakes this next go around for Knicks management will be.

The Knicks for the first time since the horrendous Patrick Ewing trade which caused this fall from grace now have options. Options that include being patient for just one season, while the Knicks simply retool and gather there marbles, implement a new system, and maximize in house talent like Iman Shumpert and Hardaway Jr. The Manhattan Knicks might make the playoffs while maintaining cap space which is as foreign to the Knicks as the notion of a really good point guard. The next few months will be crucial as they will truly bring to light if Phil Jackson is making his own decisions or still doing things the way Dolan wants them done.

Knicks “One Shining Moment” Parody

Thoughts on the playoff picture –

Nets – Raptors

Hate to see a time honored narrative of youth play out in game, but it did. The Nets looked like they played in the playoffs before and even while struggling to hit a 3 point shot still maintained a locked in game plan of exposing the Raptors deficiencies. It will be interesting to see if the Raptors can flip this series and make it about maximizing their strengths, like the next series we are talking about.

Bulls – Wizard

Nene and Gortat are forces, any basketball fan knows that. The conventional wisdom is that Nene over powered Noah which is entirely true. John Wall, though not exceptional was a terror closing out two shooters on defense, compromising the Bulls defenders. Also an appearance by DJ Floppistine made for a long overdue Wizards playoff victory.

Heat – Bobcats

Charlotte you lost me at Al Jefferson playing at anything less the 90%

Pacers – Hawks

Boy Hibbert you are playing so horrendously that I cannot even tell when Mahimni is in the game. Let’s not make Hibbert the whipping boy. Most times we think a solid defense can temper a bad offense but the Pacers look like a bad offense has made their defense wane. I want to say the Pacers should pull this out but that is too much optimism. They have become too average for too long for me to have any faith in them anymore.

I will break down the western playoffs in my next piece.
